The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the
"minimum-risk" category in 1996 to help expedite the development of
alternative pesticides. To qualify as "minimum-risk", all ingredients
(both actives and inerts) must be food grade material. Pesticides that
qualify as "minimum-risk" pose absolutely no risk to humans, pets or the
environment, and are exempt from EPA registration.
